Uptown is fine, but the Bulldog NE is fantastic! I'd give NE 5 stars for sure.

Always thought Kelly was great--food isn't the best in town but the beer selection is up there, the Belgians are great. Obviously, if it was that bad of a place it wouldn't be filled practically every night.

I've been a regular of this bar since it opened. The reason I keep going is because of the outstanding service and welcoming atmosphere provided by all staff - particularly Kelly.

I have not wanted to post for some time hoping things would change at the Uptown Bulldog, but they have not. I am a semi-regular customer who goes there on the weekdays and weekends. Same person I see there time and time again has the same bad attitude. Name: Kelly. Not only is she a server but now a bartender! I can't get away from her. I, along with a few other regulars, keep hoping she will just go away but she continues to be there. Why? She is extremely rude and isn't pleasant to be around. She comes across as not personable and when she is at the Bulldog it feels like there is an unease about the place, almost like tension and unhappiness settles in at the Bulldog. I have read the reviews before on this site and others, and I know she has been mentioned before; I just don't understand why is she still there. What makes it worse is why is she now there more! I feel like if the owner hires people like her and continues to give her shifts he/she must not really know what is going on or care about customers coming back. Hopefully, people will start realizing she isn't an asset to that place but a liability. Please make the Bulldog a happier and more pleasant place to go to.

The Bulldog has great food and a pretty good beer selection. I dunno who the others are complaining about, but I talk to most of the people who work there, including the owner. Maybe it's because I go there during lunch a few times a week, but I've never seen any rude servers or bartenders during my visits.

0 stars should be an option. I had the most impersonal jackass of a bartender (Jeff i believe). Made it seem like I was doing him a favor by coming in. Well I wasn't jeff and I wanted a beer. Smile occasionally and you may find yourself with friendlier customers.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars as well as a couple other people....all based on the service alone. Going on a limb, it's the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. From management even down to the doorman, who I watched try to pick a fight with someone who was compliant being kicked out, or kicking someone out for accidentally bumping into a chair. Another example is the rude waitress taking your beer menu when she "decides" you are done and give it to the next table. There's just not enough time to write down the rest of the stuff I've seen from these inattentive, inconsiderate jerks. Well, if you are like "Hub" and "Localite", more power to you I guess. And to the people who still frequent this bar. So to keep this nice, I do not recommend this bar for a positive life experience.

I give the NE location 4 stars, but I try not to go to the uptown/st paul locations - they are definitely lacking. NE has great versions on tator tots (truffle oil and parmesean!) and I've always had nice and competant servers. It can get pretty busy on the weekends though.

I go to this bar maybe once a month. The servers remember me and what we like to get. The cheesecurds are awesome, they have great veggie burgers and cajun fries and tots. Beer selection changes frequently, the service is fast (only two servers for the whole restaurant---amazing they can do it). Be warned it gets crowded, can be hard to find a seat. Uptown location has awesome food----Saint Paul location SUCKS---very rude servers, they can't tell you any info about beer selection and I sent my cajun fries back TWICE--stay in uptown if heading to The Bulldog

Nice bar if you're a smoker.. If you want a seat get there no later than 9:30 on a weekend. Average drink prices. Meat Market. Bartenders are slow to respond. Otherwise, one of the best bars in uptown if you want to stay away from the pretentiousness of the uptown hipster/yuppie scene.

I agree with the one person who said that thie servers are rude as hell, i have been coming to this place for a long time, but always sat at the bar and thats great, but I took my wife in one afternoon and sat outside, and before i could ask a question I was told that we cannot just sit out there if we were just smoking, I told the rude "server" that we did not smoke and wanted menus, she came back ten minutes later with the menus and did not even ask if we wanted drinks! I complained to the manager who is a friend and that just made it worse! Go to the one N.E. they are nicer there!

After finding a seat we waited for 15 minutes for the waitress. She was extremely rude, asked us for our ID's, and then left without looking at them. She came back 10 minutes later, looked at our ID's, rudely threw them back at us, asked us what we wanted, and brought us our drinks 10 minutes later. It took us 35 minutes to get our drinks. We finished our drinks, and went across the street to the CC Club where the waitress was much nicer. I will NEVER go back here again.

I don't understand why this place can't live up to it's two new locations. It's been around a lot longer so you would think they would fix things up here first instead of opening two new, better versions of it. It's within walking distance from my house but it's stupid that I have to go all the way to the NE location to get decent food.

This is just a good place to hangout. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. Their HH isn't bad either. The only thing that sucks is having to find parking during th winter.

Huge fan of the bulldog uptown. The St. Paul and the Northeast are too cavernous. Love the neighborhood feel of it. My only complating is that they can't get the burger cooked right. Ask for Med rare you get rare.. ask for medium and you get well. other than that, it's a great local water hole

This is my favorite bar. It has an perfect bar atmosphere that is hard to describe, but it must be a mixture of the lighting, music, and layout. It is one of those places where you can settle in and do some serious drinking. Their prices are also reasonable and they have nightly drink specials.

Worst service from servers to management. The beer selection is great and food is good but expect to be treated poorly. There are way better places to spend your hard earned money and ensure a possative experience.

I glad to find a place to voice my opinion. This place has good potential to be an exceptional place to have a positive experience. The last time I was there (few months ago) , the server was indignent when we started questioning the status of the food after waiting 45-minutes. After the negative response, the group left. This is the first time I've ever had to walked out on a order because of poor service. I've received better service at the bars on the reservation in ND. In order to make this place shine the employees that continually tarnish this bars potential with there attitude need to be removed. There is a big distinction between a customer being a problem and the server being lousy. I've spent 6-years being a bartender and I was baffeled at the quality of service at this bar. I will not return because of the poor service.

This bar definitely has its in crowd. I'm close enough in that I get great treatment, and that's why I go there. In all reality, that's how most bars operate. As far as the bartender "forgetting" to give you a card, that's a load of crap. Either you forgot to pay, or you paid, but didn't take your card. I'm still in love with this bar.

+1 on UptownImbibers comment. I'll add even more. I was at the bar over the weekend and they have some FREAK like 7' tall bartender guy. What a D*%k!!! The guy has Asian tats (God knows what the hell they say) and the guy is such an ass. He was props for all his white trash friends showing up and being TOTALLY over the top as a D*%k to a bunch of us at the bar. Not like we were nursing our drinks. We were ordering steady. It was like all he wanted there was white trash. And the more I look around, that's what they got as clientele. Me and my friends WON'T be back...

Seriously...what is up with the Bulldog's service? If you get lucky enough to have a spot at the bar, no prob. But get stuck at a table? It's like Service Russian Roulette. A few servers are very good, but, damn, they have some freaks serving there. One brown/brunette chick has as much personality as the Pabst on tap. Bulldog...take care of your customers!

I wish I could give this bar 0 stars. I "left" my credit card there - really the bartender forgot to give it back to me. When I went to get it the next day, the manager said I would need to wait 30 minutes to get it since he was the only one there, but clearly standing behind the bar where my card was. When I became naturally upset, he said I shouldn't have left it there. He was a total prick. I left without the card and went back on another day and another employee went to get the card for me. When the manager saw me he told the other employee not to give it to me and to cut it up. I will NEVER go there again. I told a friend about this story and he told me he went to the Bulldog in NE and said that he left his card there and when he went back to retrieve it was told that he would have to wait until the next week since they put his card in a safe and the only employee with a key wouldn't be in for several days. Needless to say their customer service is shit. Pay with a credit card at your own risk.

just moved nearby the uptown location. the greatest thing occured (i had never seen in my life of cooking) the bartender tiped the cook for my to go order. food was different than expected. hard to find places like that with their own design on a meal.

I'm only giving this place the lowest rating cause, I had lunch at the NE location several weeks ago with a client. My bill was $45 and I left a $9 tip. However, the server must have needed money cause she added a 1 in front of the 9 making it a $19 tip on my monthly corporate statement. This is theft!!! Heads should roll over this.

I'm sure this place isn't for everyone but I love it. Awesome beer selection, I'm a big fan of the food (good sandwiches and crazy hot dogs), reasonable prices, and some great music selection (Cold War Kids, TV on the Radio, and various classics). This place rocks. Not a meat market and don't expect something uber trendy or Chino/Latino like. Just a great chill place. Can't get loud inside but suck it up.

One of the best bars to get food at in South Minneapolis. Great char-broiled burgers, super sandwiches... especially the Philly Beef, and a wide beer selection make it a great spot for both a meal and to hang out. My only gripe is that the lighting is a little TOO dark.

The female employees are very attractive. The patrons are down to earth and mostly local. Beer and food is excellent. I dont run into too many suburban bar hopping trash types there.

Say what you want, I found this gem cruising thriftyhipster and the beer selection is 2nd to none! Also, the staff is great and friendly, if you want impecable service and flare go somewhere else, bulldog is not a corporate bar, thats for sure.

Not sure why Ben thinks the service is bad, could be in table selection in that the server did not see him when he arrived? We always sit at the bar and get great service from Pete. The food is really good, though you might guess otherwise from the baskets they serve food in. They have a good beer selection and most seem to be knowledgeable about them and they strive to always serve the beer in the proper glass. If you do not know why the glass is important you probably drink Miller or Bud.

I come to this neighborhood bar from all the way across town because, dammit, it's my kind of bar. Jukebox nicely stocked with butt rawk favourites. Burgers are excellent. Beer selection is great, yet somehow I always end up gravitating toward the PBR. Service is friendly and efficient.

An outstanding neighborhood bar. With all the lousy ratings I wasn't expecting much but I was very surprised. Solid beer selection, solid service, solid bar food. Plus, it didn't have the kitchy uptown crowd that was "slumming it" down on Lyndale.

Have fun at the CC Club where you can all try so hard to be different by trying to look the same as the person next to you. The bulldog is great.

Smaller than my living room, the juke box is about as "punk" as my left shoe and the staff are hipster police. Do yourself a favor and patronize another bar. Anything but this sorry ass excuse for a prefab uptown dive. Almost as authentic as a pre-faded pair of jeans.

Spent most of this evening on the patio drinking. The staff was quick with drinks, and the general atmosphere was, well... Uptown. Like Ikkin said: "Love the jukebox" There wasn't a bad song played all night, and that's saying a lot when you leave your music selection to strangers.

The food and beer is great, the wait staff is fucking horifric! I have stopped going after the fourth time I had to walk out for waiting more than six min to even ask for a beer. All four times I was one of six customers in the joint and had the staff just stare at me like I was only there to keep the chair from floating away.
