The Wild Onion is a popular place on Grand Avenue in St. Paul and is frequented by a lot of the St. Thomas crowd. They have a large bar, big booths, and a small dance floor. The inside is dim, and the walls are lined with bright portrait paintings.
The Wild Onion hosts dancing (Top 40) and drinking on the weekends. They utilize the concept of large portions, decent prices, and lends to a long night of over-consumption. The Onion is a pretty safe bet for any night out in St. Paul if you are looking for large crowds. They offer some of the best recurring nightly specials around the area too!
MP Zetreve: As awesome as the Onion is, you DO NOT want to go here on the weekends. St. Thomas kids means two things: 1) Lots of bros (yuck) and 2) Very snooty women. This adds up to make a pretty unpleasant venue to frequent for a dance party (no matter how loud they blast their KDWB Top 40 playlist). On the bright side, they have a great HH and the atmosphere is tolerable when you aren't packed shoulder to shoulder with Tommies.
