Based in west downtown Minneapolis, The News Room is essentially a themed restaurant and bar. From the minute you walk in, you may think why this place has what looks like newspapers plastered everywhere. And one might wonder why this is until they realize that this is, as the name suggests (whoda thunk it, no?), essentially a newsroom, minus the reporters (except for the possible Star Trib writers off-the-clock), plus a full bar. Each dining room is essentially devoted to individual sections of a newspaper (think Sports section, Entertainment section, etc). The News Room does feature some pretty sweet happy hours and a pretty good and speedy staff, so it is indeed worth checking out at certain times if you're on a budget. The main courses in the dining room are a little pricey, but definitely no worse than many other downtown haunts. You'll get your typical variety of downtown bar-goers here, possibly of older generations, but if theme bars are your thing, check this place out.
